Quick answer
For a straight bottle or jar, the label width is the distance round it (circumference) minus a small gap, or plus a small overlap. Enter your measurement and the straight-side height available and the calculator gives the label size. Tapered bottles need a curved template, so no rectangle is promised for those.
Label to order
Width (wraps round)
21.7 cm
8.54 in
Height
8 cm
3.15 in
Way round the bottle
22 cm
A 0.3 cm gap is left at the seam. A rectangular label suits straight-sided bottles and jars only.
How it works
- 1Measure the bottle where the label will go: either the distance round it with a flexible tape (circumference) or the width across it (diameter). Circumference = π × diameter.
- 2Measure the straight height available for the label, avoiding the neck, shoulder, base and any moulded edges.
- 3Choose a seam: a small gap, or an overlap. They are alternatives, not both.
- 4Read the label size, then do a paper test: cut paper to that size and wrap it on the real bottle before you order.
What to keep in mind
- Straight cylinders only produce a rectangle. If the bottle tapers (the circumference changes between the top and bottom of the label area) the tool shows the two edge widths and says a template is needed.
- The measurement is only as good as your tape. Measure twice, in the same place, and use the real container, not its volume (a 500 ml bottle can have many shapes).
- The suggested standard sizes are for guidance: a standard width that is not exactly your wrap width leaves a bigger gap or an overlap, which the tool shows.
